The Town of Douglas, located in the heart of the Blackstone River Valley, borders Oxford and Sutton on the North; Uxbridge and Northbridge on the east; Webster on the West; and Rhode Island and Connecticut on the South.
Douglas is known for its forest areas and gave rise to a woodcutting industry and the Douglas axe company. A wool factory on the Mumford River in East Douglas has been prominent in the history of this community. General Lafayette, of France, stopped here during the Revolutionary War to change horses on his way to Boston to join General Washington. Lafayette was a hero of the American Revolution and the French Revolution.
